U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo released the 2019 Trafficking in Persons Report today. The 2019 TIP Report includes narratives for more than 180 countries and territories, including the United States. The theme of this year’s TIP Report introduction is “The National Nature of Human Trafficking: Strengthening Government Responses and Dispelling Misperceptions” and encourages governments to address all forms of human trafficking with a special emphasis on trafficking exclusively within the borders of one country. Bulgaria remains a Tier 2 TIP country and the 2019 narrative commends the efforts of working level practitioners, including law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, judges, social workers, and training experts to combat human trafficking, and urges government leaders to speak against trafficking and commit more financial resources for victim assistance and reintegration.
