Alert: Demonstration Activity in Sofia – Friday, November 11, 2022


A demonstration is expected to occur in front of the National Assembly beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022. Current reporting suggests that this demonstration will last throughout the day, with a probable conclusion at or around 5:00 p.m.

The embassy expects four to seven thousand demonstrators to participate and use 700-800 vehicles, which will likely result in blocked streets and disruptions to normal traffic flow.

The demonstration seeks to address jobs and wages in Bulgaria.

Local authorities advise that this protest can result in possible provocations.  The embassy recommends that all U.S. citizens avoid the areas impacted by demonstration activities for their duration.  An additional police presence could lead to heavier than normal traffic delays in this vicinity.  Please note that demonstration activities and locations can change quickly.
