Today, 24 February 2016, Ambassador Eric Rubin presented his diplomatic credentials to Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev. With the approval of the Presidency, the government of Bulgaria has officially recognized Rubin as the Ambassador of the United States of America to Bulgaria. Rubin is expected to serve a three-year mandate.
Ambassador Rubin arrived in Sofia on 17 February 2016. He is a career member of the Foreign Service, class of Minister Counselor. Before his arrival to Bulgaria, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs in the U.S. State Department. He held this position from 2011 to 2015. Rubin previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 2008 to 2011, Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs from 2006 to 2008, and Director of the Office of Policy and Coordination from 2004 to 2006.
