Ambassador Rubin visited a Bulgarian Crisis Center for juvenile victims of trafficking and violence. The Center, opened in 2006, hosts up to 15 children (aged 6 through 18) and provides food, shelter, healthcare, emotional/psychological support, and education for male and female victims of trafficking and other types of violence. The Crisis Center is a temporary stop for children where social workers and teachers help them emotionally heal and reintegrate into society. The goal is for children to safely rejoin their families or integrate into another type of family environment.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign runs annually from November 25 – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – through December 10, Human Rights Day.
