U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske met with Ambassador Rubin and DCM Strong at the start of his two day trip to Sofia. Ambassador Rubin encouraged Commissioner Kerlikowske to explore potential areas of CBP assistance and cooperation to the Government of Bulgaria’s border law enforcement efforts during his meetings with Ministry of Interior officials including Minister of Interior Bachvarova, Antonio Angelov, Chief Commissioner, Chief Directorate, Border Police and Hristo Terziysky, Chief Commissioner, Director of National Police Chief Directorate.
Prior to becoming Commissioner, Mr. Kerlikowske served at the White House as President Obama’s Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDC). Prior to his appointment as the Director of ONDCP, Mr. Kerlikowske spent nine years as the Seattle Chief of Police.
