“I am grateful to Bulgarian service members for their professionalism and dedication, and we’re here tonight to support their families as well during their deployment.” – U.S. Defense Attache Col. Shannon Johnson honored Bulgaria’s 101st Alpine Regiment, which is deployed to Afghanistan, on Saturday night at Smolyan’s Garrison Military Club. Col. Johnson and several U.S. colleagues hosted 101st Alpine Regiment families for dinner, and played games and contests with the children of the deployed Bulgarian military members. Bulgarian Col. Dimitar Katsarov, Commanding Officer of 101st Alpine Regiment, also attended and thanked the families. Col. Johnson is looking forward to returning to Smolyan to join celebrations when the 101st Alpine Regiment returns home in early August.
