U.S. Embassy Sofia informs U.S. citizens of a demonstration scheduled on Saturday, February 14, 2015. The demonstration will take place in front of the memorial plaque on 1 Trakiya Street from 5pm-9pm. However, information suggests there may also be a march starting at the National Palace of Culture (NDK). This demonstration is part of an annual event to commemorate the death of Bulgarian General Hristo Lukov. The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens avoid those areas during the scheduled demonstration.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
