Demonstrations in Sofia on October 17 and October 18, 2015

This message is to inform U.S. citizens of demonstrations on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

On Saturday, October 17th, a motor rally through Sofia (time and route unknown) is expected to make its way to the Russian Embassy.  Two such rallies, showing support for “Russia in Syria,” took place in Varna earlier this week with approximately 20 supporters per rally.  The group has not officially requested a permit from the Sofia Municipality.

On Sunday, October 18th, a protest is scheduled to occur in front of the U.S. Embassy.  The group, Common Front, has filed for and received a permit from the Sofia Municipality to gather in front of the Embassy to deliver speeches between 1600 and 1800 hrs.  Expected turnout for this event is 60-100 protesters.

U.S. Citizens may wish to avoid these areas prior to and during the events.  Even events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
