Earth Day – April 22

On April 22, we observe the 48th annual Earth Day. This Earth Day, we highlight the importance of both environmentally sound waste management and the prevention and reduction of marine debris, which is mostly comprised of plastic waste.

The United States is working internationally to encourage innovation in the waste sector, to spur new infrastructure investment, to collaborate in scientific research, and to raise public awareness about the threats of unmanaged waste and marine debris.

We celebrate the ingenuity of those who are rising to the challenge to protect our environment and natural heritage, while promoting economic growth and shared prosperity.
