On Wednesday, June 28, Col Shannon Johnson, Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché with U.S. Embassy in Sofia and Burgas Mayor Mr. Dimitar Nikolov inaugurated the renovated Day Center for Youth with Disabilities. The renovation of the Day Center is the result of close cooperation between the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation and the Municipality of Burgas. The U.S. Government donated $250,000 USD to cover part of renovation costs. The Day Center will provide speech therapy, physical therapy and rehabilitation, consultations, group activities and social service work. It can accommodate up to 20 children at a time as well as 12 specialized staff. Over the last five years, the U.S. government has invested more than $4 million in Humanitarian Assistance Program projects in Bulgaria.
