Event:
From 1100 to 1800 hours on Tuesday, January 10, Ataka, a Bulgarian nationalist political party, plans to protest the anniversary of allied forces bombings in Sofia during World War II.
Demonstration organizers notified the embassy of a demonstration in front of the U.S. embassy in Sofia, consisting of approximately 60-70 demonstrators. The Embassy does not anticipate disruptions to routine consular services.
Actions to Take:
- Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly become violent.
- Avoid areas of demonstrations.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly found in the vicinity of large gatherings or demonstrations.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
- U.S. Citizens are advised to call the police (#112), seek a safe location, and wait for assistance from the police
