Summer Work and Travel Photo Contest – 2016

Are you a Bulgarian student participating in the 2016 Summer Work & Travel Program (SW&T)?  If so, this photo contest is for you!

Share your Summer Work and Travel adventure and enter the U.S. Embassy in Sofia’s “American Values” photography competition!

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce “American Values,” a photography competition for 2016 Summer Work and Travel alumni. Enter the contest with a photo collage that includes at least three photos that you take during your 2016 SWT adventure. Your photo collage should illustrate the American values of optimism, volunteerism, exploration, innovation and/or diversity that you experience during your SWT program in the United States. Photos may be from your work setting or from your travel and cultural activities.

Contest: Submit no more than one photo collage at sofia@usembassy.bg with the subject line “American Values – a photo collage,” from November 2 through November 16, 2016. Include your name, contact information, university, the city and state where you worked, information about each of the photos included in your collage (Where and when was it taken? Who is in it? Which value(s) does it illustrate, and how does it illustrate that?) and  a brief statement about what you learned about American values during your Summer Work and Travel 2016 adventure.

The winning photo collage will be featured on the cover of the U.S. Embassy’s 2017 Summer Work and Travel brochure, and the U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria will present the winner with a signed, framed poster of the winning entry.

The ten collages selected by an Embassy committee will be shared on the U.S. Embassy Sofia’s Facebook page as well as printed and displayed at official SWT events.

Guidelines: Submissions are allowed only from those who participate in the SWT program between May 1 and September 30, 2016. Participants may submit a maximum of one photo collage, which must include at least (but is not limited to) three photos. All photos must be your original work to which you own the rights. Submission of any images of which you are not the author will result in automatic elimination from the competition and ineligibility to participate in any future U.S. Embassy-sponsored competitions. Photos along with the required information must be emailed to sofia@usembassy.bg. The top submissions will be posted on the U.S. Embassy Sofia’s Facebook page and must adhere to the Embassy’s and Facebook’s Terms of Use. Any unsuitable or inappropriate content will be removed from the competition, and the submitter will be ineligible to compete in this or any future competitions sponsored by the U.S. Embassy.

Each image may not exceed a maximum size of 5MB, and must be saved as a JPEG (.jpg) file.  Each image must be saved at a resolution of 300 dpi and be no longer than 2,000 pixels on its longest side.  Submissions should not have any visible watermarks, signatures or personally identifiable information.

The Embassy reserves the right to make the final determination on any finalists/winners based on a combination of creative factors and esthetic quality. The decision of the Embassy is final and not subject to appeal.

Events from this contest may be announced and promoted on various social media platforms, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter and Flickr, but contest entry and administration will take place through e-mail.  Contest winners may also be announced on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other platforms; however, these platforms are not partners or sponsors of the contest.  The winner will be contacted via e-mail at the e-mail address provided when submitting an entry to the competition. By submitting an entry to the competition, the submitter is guaranteeing that he or she is the owner of all rights to the image and is granting the U.S. Embassy and other U.S. government agencies full rights to reproduce the image for use in promotional materials in the future.
