U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria Herro Mustafa visited Bulgaria’s southern border to underscore America’s commitment to partnering and cooperating with Bulgaria to strengthen border security.
Bulgaria’s Kapitan Andreevo is the busiest border crossing in Europe. The United States supports Bulgaria’s work to ensure security at Bulgaria’s borders – which is also the EU southern border. The U.S. and Bulgaria have strong cooperation and partnership regarding border security.
Today Ambassador Mustafa visited Kapitan Andreevo border crossing, Bulgaria’s green border, and the Trilateral Police and Customs Cooperation Center (a joint Bulgaria-Greece-Turkey center located at Border Police Station Svilengrad).
Ambassador Mustafa and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Attaché to Bulgaria Douglass Eckhardt met with Bulgarian Ministry of Interior Secretary General Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Ivanov, Director of Chief Directorate Border Police Chief Commissioner Svetlan Kicholov, and Director of Regional Directorate Border Police Commissioner Deyan Mollov. They discussed ongoing cooperation and partnership between U.S. Embassy Sofia, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection, and Bulgaria’s Ministry of the Interior.
