On Thursday, May 14, Col. James Crowhurst, Senior Defense Official for the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria, and Haskovo Regional Governor Mr. Dobri Belivanov will inaugurate the recently renovated Bell Kindergarten in the Municipality of Haskovo.
The U.S. Government invested $200,000 USD in this project. The staff of the Bell Kindergarten used the funds from the U.S. Humanitarian Assistance program, together with support from the Municipality, to renovate one of the largest kindergartens in Haskovo. The project included complete renovation of all children’s bathrooms and kitchenettes, replacement of all windows and wooden doors, complete façade restoration, construction of an entrance canopy and exterior
lighting.
In the last five years, the U.S. government has invested more than $3 million USD in Humanitarian Assistance Program projects in Bulgaria. These projects often bring together American and Bulgarian military troops, who jointly volunteer their labor. Also under this program, the U.S. government partners with non-governmental organizations and local Bulgarian firms to fulfill these projects in accordance with
Bulgaria’s social and economic development strategy.
