U.S. Humanitarian and Civic Assistance Program Funds Help Renovate Nadezhda Kindergarten in Kilifarevo, Veliko Tarnovo Municipality

On Friday, August 26, COL Dean Swick, Deputy Chief of Staff, 412th Theatre Engineer Command (TEC) Engineer Brigade, and Veliko Tarnovo Deputy Mayor Mrs. Snezhana Daneva will inaugurate the renovated Nadezhda Kindergarten in Kilifarevo.

The project was completed jointly by soldiers from 375th Engineer Company, 412th TEC and service members from the Chemical Unit, part of the Musachevo Chemical Battalion, Bulgarian Land Forces. The total cost of the project is around $75,000 (US). Some of the renovations in the kindergarten include a complete kitchen remodeling to include new equipment and a renovated playground including a drainage system, providing a safer and energy efficient environment for 54 children who attend the only kindergarten in Kilifarevo.

Humanitarian and Civic Assistance enhances interoperability between allies while addressing community needs and improving the quality of life of Bulgarians.

In the last five years, the U.S. government has invested more than $4 million in Humanitarian Assistance Program projects in Bulgaria. The Humanitarian Assistance Program brings together American and Bulgarian military troops to collaborate on significant projects. Under this program, the U.S. government also partners with non-governmental organizations and local Bulgarian firms to carry out these projects in accordance with Bulgaria’s social and economic development strategy.
