U.S. Humanitarian and Civic Assistance Program Funds Help Renovate the Playground of Slantse Kindergarten in the Town of Sungurlare

On Thursday, July 30, COL Craig Johnson, Commander of 194th Engineer Brigade, Tennessee Army National Guard, and Sungurlare Mayor Dr. Georgi Kenov will inaugurate the renovated playground of Slantse Kindergarten.

The project was completed jointly by soldiers of 194th Engineer Brigade and airmen of FOB Bezmer, Bulgarian Air Force. The total cost of the project is only around $15,000, but it provides a safer environment for 131  children who attend the largest kindergarten in the Municipality of Sungurlare.

HCA projects are an excellent opportunity for enhancing interoperability between allies while addressing community needs and improving the quality of life of the civilian population.

In the last five years, the U.S. government has invested more than $3 million in Humanitarian Assistance Program projects in Bulgaria. These projects, as in this activity, often bring together American and Bulgarian military troops to work in a meaningful way.  Also under this program, the U.S. government partners with non-governmental organizations and local Bulgarian firms to fulfill these projects in accordance with Bulgaria’s social and economic development strategy.

Media are invited to cover the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will take place at the Slantse Kindergarten, 3, Komsomolska Street, from 1000 a.m. until 1100 a.m. on Thursday, July 30.
